Hola! como estas?!

Ha! I WISH I speak Spanish fluently!

Let’s try again…

Hey there! My name is Honey McDaniel. I’m a senior voice user interface designer (think conversational AI, chatgpt, you get the gist!) at Truist Bank. I’ve been doing product design for about 10 years now (I turn 10 this year! YAY!).

Few key things about me:

  • Quirky – yes, we have to live life lightly every once in a while.

  • Brave – yes, please! Take me out of my comfort zone. Just don’t ask me to code. I’ve tried that path in the past and I’ve accepted my fate that I’m no programmer. LOL…. I do have the background though and I will communicate as best as I possibly can with my devs – honestly, just ask some of the few ones I’ve worked with in the past, a lot of them LOVE me!

  • Innovative – as much as you’ll allow me to but I’ll always aim for the stars and we can negotiate later.

  • Team player – I fill in gaps as I see them and suggest/implement solutions to standardize processes.

I can keep going all day long so I’ll just put what my colleagues say about me below.

What people say about me…

Honey joins us from USAA where she led several design projects and has a background in both design and software development. She is very quick-witted and is able to tackle projects at any phase of the lifecycle. She has a knack for quickly understanding the landscape of something and moving forward regardless of whether she still has blockers or not. Her passion and collaborative style has already inspired others on the team and she would love to be your brainstorm buddy, if you're looking for someone to bounce ideas off of. She also loves cats (you'll typically see them in her background), sending memes and movie/tv recommendations.

- Alex, SVP Experience Design Director (Truist)

Honey recently volunteered to present the NLU & Emerging team's vision and work with the entire Experience Design organization. She showed incredible poise and clarity throughout the presentation and did a wonderful job explaining the space and demo-ing the work. I'm recognizing Honey for stepping out of her comfort zone to do something hard but so important. Nice job, Honey!

- Chris, Senior Director of Experience Design (Truist)

An innovative designer, Honey has skills that span from visionary work to pixel-perfect UI. She has a great ability to join a team at any stage of the design process, and hit the ground running. Her expertise and enthusiasm to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders allow her to streamline processes in order to tackle challenges in projects. She consistently leverages feedback from teammates and proactively conducts user research to craft informed design decisions. Any team would be lucky to have Honey, and I can't recommend her enough.

- Martha, Senior Product Designer (Backerkit)

Your helpful spirit and over-achieveness comes in handy in SO many ways on our team. You have great ideas, and you are smart enough to present some really complex topics in clear ways. Your learning curve was short and quick and you have made it a pleasure to work with you on conditionals & etc. Keep being great. We need it! Personally, I love when you "make stuff happen" without me or you needing a computer. Keep nurturing your curiosity and fun.

- Yaddy, Principal AI/ML Designer (Truist)

Honey,

I’m very happy to hear you scored a FTE position! A bit less happy that it was not with USAA, but you’re much too good at what you do to stick around here as a contractor. Roadside, and many other projects, would not be where they are today without your hard work. I’m positive you will be just as transformative with your next team. Good luck with whatever comes your way!

Till next time

- Collin, Senior Native Developer (USAA)

Hey Honey!

There won't be a Roadside Design-Divas without you. Thank you for all your amazing work in Roadside with me, and for taking it over so well when I was on leave. You are a fast learner and kept the concepts throughout the process that I really appreciate.

It's been a pleasure working with you. I wish you all the best in your new opportunity. I'm sure you'll shine like a diva there too!

- Aby, UX/UI Designer I (USAA)

Having worked with Honey for a few months now, I am amazed at her willingness and ability to jump into a new job and quickly become a rock star. She's a total self-starter, highly driven and constantly reaches out to her colleagues to offer help (yay!). Within a few weeks, she started working on patentable ideas! I'm not ashamed to admit it, I go to her when I need help with deciphering something in Rally or AirTable (to which she is also new). Also, as a new employee, she not only reviewed the Welcome Miro board--she started UPDATING it and making it more relevant while she was onboarding. She added/ edited the steps to onboarding that held up a lot of newbies, and showed them the fastest way to finish the onboarding process that could take weeks. All this within her first month on the job. So that's pretty awesome.
